Abstract

The hearing aid usage penetration rate in the emerging markets region is very low, by the standards set by the U.S. and Western Europe. Low penetration rates, fast developing economies and health care sectors in tandem with massive populations combine to create an environment with tremendous growth potential. Despite obstacles to be overcome, further hearing aids penetration will burgeon into a newly created avenue of growth for the market. The penetration rate of hearing aids in the Chinese market is approximately 25% greater than the penetration rate in the Indian market. The difference in penetration rates is due in large part to comparatively favorable reimbursement policies and distribution conditions, coupled with higher average income levels that are prevalent in China.

Description

The total market for hearing devices comprised the wholesale and retail markets for hearing aids, as well as the cochlear implant markets, in India and China. Both India and China are rapidly developing countries, as well as the world's two largest countries by population. Both population size and strong economic development are strong growth drivers in these markets.

Asia Pacific

Asia-Pacific or Asia Pacific (abbreviated as Asia-Pac, AsPac, APAC, APJ, JAPA or JAPAC) is the part of the world in or near the Western Pacific Ocean. The region varies in size depending on context, but it typically includes much of East Asia, Southeast Asia, and Oceania.

The term may also include ;Russia (on the North Pacific) and countries in the Americas which are on the coast of the Eastern Pacific Ocean; the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, for example, includes Canada, Chile, Russia, Mexico, Peru, and the United States.

Alternatively, the term sometimes comprises all of Asia and Australasia as well as Pacific island nations.

Though imprecise, the term has become popular since the late 1980s in commerce, finance and politics. Despite the heterogeneity of the regions' economies, most individual nations within the zone are emerging markets experiencing rapid growth.
